WiP Wednesday- A New Project- or Two

I've started a new quilt! Yay!

Haven't finished this one yet

I seem to be dragging my feet...
but needed some new inspiration. Funny how it seems a bit naughty to start something new before finishing the last- but I'm breaking out and living dangerously these days!!

This a going to be a wonky cross quilt in the style of this by Rossie and this by Carla of LollyQuiltz. I have been collecting some text prints with this in mind and have put together a few other colours to supplement. Unintentionally this seems to be shaping up to be a similar palette to Carla and Rossie's quilts. I'm thinking that I may want to add depth to this with a dark tealy emerald in the tones of the Castle Peeps one at the top of the lower photo, but I'll just see how it shapes up as I make the blocks.

I've also started on a paper piecing project. Just a trial block to start with, perhaps a cushion, just to see if I like it enough to commit to a whole quilt.

Don't worry-I will iron them before I attempt the paper piecing! Below is my techy way of working out which fabric goes where!

What are you working on? Do you feel like a rebel starting something new while you still have something unfinished?

This month I definitely qualify as a Slow Blogger (rather like every month actually) so I'm linking up over at KettleBoiler who's hosting this month and on Wednesday with Lee at Freshly Pieced- Two for one- is that cheating really badly?

  2. Your fabric is so pretty! The tealy emerald is a great mixer (I have found over many years that rich blue/green shades are great for pulling together other fabrics)... and to answer your question, I absolutely always have multiple projects going!

  3. I love the look of the fabrics you have pulled for your displacement activity quilt! As a terrible non-finisher I do feel very guilty if I move on to the next thing before finishing the first. Sometimes you just get creatively stuck, though, and it just clogs up the works - best to take a break and move on for a bit. (Also, I really admire the bloggers who manage to spread out their finishes and WIPs - although one shouldn't worry about this it does make for an interesting blog:-)

  5. Love your fabric choices. Yes, I do feel naughty starting something new when I've not finished something else, I try not to do it too much though.

  6. I like your system of working out what goes where on your paper pattern. I used coloured pencils - some of my paper patterns look like badly done, complex colour by number pictures!

  8. Love your text collection. My UFO buckets are out of control and I"m bringing a dozen projects to the retreat this weekend hoping to knock some off and feel less guilty about the new projects.

  9. I'm a newbie but have already discovered the guilt of starting something new without having something else finished! I get to a creative rut and don't know what to do next, but then I have an idea for something else and its like an itch that I have to scratch (start) before I move on (or move back). I love your text fabric selection, they're going to look amazing in the wonky quilt!

  10. I have to change it up sometimes, too, to keep my interest going. Unfortunately, I get way behind in my quilting because tops are so much fun to create and go faster than the hand quilting. Your crosses are beautiful.

  13. Oh, I often work on different projects at the same time but they are often in different states. So I can cut some fabric while the kids are playing and I can sew on another project when they are sleeping. It works for me (when there are no deadlines...) And as for linking up to different parties with the same post - I guess as slow bloggers we can take the liberty to do it, can't we :o)
